Dr. Gene Jensen received his Doctor of Dental Surgery from Dalhousie Dental School in Halifax, his Master of Science Degree and Orthodontic Diploma from the University of Manitoba, and his Fellowship in the Royal College of Dentists in Toronto.
Dr. Jensen is an active member of both the Canadian Association of Orthodontics and the American Association of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics. He specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of malformed and malaligned teeth, jaws, jaw muscles, jaw joints and facial deformities, caused by abnormally shaped or poorly aligned jaws and teeth.
Dr. Jensen’s orthodontic treatment objectives are summarized as follows:
1. To deliver the most optimum treatment possible within realistic expectations of each patient.
2. To create an orthodontic result for each patient that is stable, comfortable, pain-free, functional, cosmetically pleasing and long-lasting.
3. To enable patients to achieve enhanced levels of self-confidence and self-esteem that will open doors, create opportunities and position them on a level playing field with their competitors.
4. To empower patients to improve their interpersonal relationships and social skills, towards the journey to success and happiness, as well as throughout their lifetime.
As an orthodontic consultant to the oral surgery departments at the V.G., IWK and Stadacona hospitals, and as associate professor of orthodontics at Dalhousie University Dental School for 15 years, Dr. Jensen has acquired a vast amount of expertise and valuable experience in treating the most challenging orthodontic problems. Examples are cleft lip and palate rehabilitation, Temporomandibular joint dysfunction, dentofacial deformities, congenital, developmental and genetic disorders, adult orthodontics, as well as preventive orthodontic treatment for children from 6 to 14 years of age.
Dr. Jensen has also accumulated a wealth of knowledge and expertise by surrounding himself with a supporting team of experts in associated disciplines of medicine and dentistry. Examples are ENT, plastic and reconstructive surgery, microsurgery, orthopedic surgery, physiotherapy, TMJ therapeutics, pathology, chiropractry, adult and children’s anaesthesiology, pediatric dentistry, psychology, periodontics, neurology, endodontics, oral and maxillofacial surgery, and last but not least, fixed and removable prosthodontics. Dr. Jensen is very well connected to those specialists who are only a phone call away, and with whom he has collaborated, in some cases on numerous occasions.
Dr. Jensen strongly believes in the time proven principle, that an ounce of prevention in orthodontics is much better than the pound of cure, during crisis management. To that end he encourages parents to bring their children into his office for a free orthodontic consultation. This includes intra and extra oral exams, a panoramic digital x-ray, coloured photographs, a diagnosis, treatment plan and follow-up letter to the family doctor and/or dentist, and a follow-up orthodontic appointment with Dr. Jensen 6-12 months later. This is free of charge to ascertain that his recommended treatment is working.
At 6-7 years of age, simple and inexpensive interceptive/preventive orthodontic procedures can be implemented, to either eliminate the orthodontic problem altogether or to at least render a potentially severe orthodontic problem less severe and make it more easily managed at a later date with less expensive and less painful procedures.
Dr. Jensen, after having successfully diagnosed and/or treated more than 25,000 patients with dental facial and jaw irregularities no longer has to experiment or try different modalities on patients. He instinctively knows what the diagnosis is, and how to treat the problem appropriately. There is no room or time for guesswork or experimentation.
